There's a reason buttoned beds have stayed popular for so long. The tufted detailing — buttons pulled through the upholstery to create a patterned, padded surface — adds depth and a sense of craft that a plain headboard simply can't match. Our buttoned beds collection gathers every bed in the range with a buttoned headboard, made to order in the UK in your choice of size, fabric and colour.

What makes a buttoned bed

A buttoned headboard is upholstered with buttons stitched through the fabric and padding, pulling the surface into gentle folds. The result is a textured, padded finish that softens the look of the bed and adds a clear point of interest to the wall behind it. It's a comfortable backrest for reading, and a more luxurious surface to lean against than a flat panel.

Buttoned detailing sits across our standard bed frame and divan construction, so you keep the full range of bases — including gas-lift ottoman storage and divan drawers — underneath.

The full fabric range

Buttoning works beautifully across almost every fabric. Plush velvet is the classic pairing — the deep pile catches the buttons and creates rich shadow. Crushed velvet adds a textured shimmer, while Chenille, Coniston and Dumfries give softer, woven finishes. Naples is the practical everyday choice; Crushed Ice brings a cooler, frosted look.

Each fabric is available across a wide colour palette: grey, silver, cream, black, navy and blue, pink, green and emerald, mustard, beige, teal, maroon, mocha, champagne, mink and white. Whether you want a dark, dramatic navy or a calm, neutral cream, the buttoning reads differently in every shade.

Sizes to fit any room

Buttoned beds are available in every standard UK size: Single 3ft, Small Double 4ft, Double 4ft6, King 5ft and Super King 6ft. A buttoned headboard has real presence, so a King or Super King makes the most of the detailing — though the look works just as well in a guest Single. Before you commit, check the width of the bed against your bedroom — the sizes step from Single 3ft up to Super King 6ft — and leave clear space around the frame for walking past and opening any storage.

Why buttoning suits a bedroom

Buttoned beds work particularly well in bedrooms because the detailing softens what is usually the largest surface in the room. A plain upholstered headboard can read as a flat block of colour; the tufting breaks it up with shadow and pattern, so the bed feels designed rather than merely upholstered. It also hides everyday wear better than a flat panel — the folded fabric is forgiving where a taut surface might mark.

The look leans comfortably traditional in a velvet or chenille, and more contemporary in a matte Naples or a cooler neutral. That range is the reason buttoned beds sit as easily in a modern flat as they do in a period home.

Storage options

Because the buttoned look is in the headboard, the base underneath is yours to choose. A gas-lift ottoman base lifts at the end of the bed to reveal the entire under-mattress space — perfect for bulky bedding and out-of-season clothes. Divan drawer options, including two-drawer and four-drawer layouts and footend drawers, keep day-to-day items close to hand.

Buttoned, diamond or chesterfield?

If you're choosing between our tufted styles, the pattern is the difference. A standard buttoned headboard uses buttons in a soft, even arrangement. A diamond-buttoned headboard sets the buttons in a diamond grid for a sharper, more geometric look. Chesterfield beds combine deep buttoning with the classic rolled silhouette. All three sit within the broader upholstered range, so the choice is really about the pattern you prefer on your wall.
