What is a diamond bed?

A diamond bed is a bed frame with a diamond-buttoned headboard — buttons stitched through the fabric in a diamond pattern, pulling the padding into neat, symmetrical peaks. The result is a more structured, architectural look than ordinary buttoning: the pattern draws the eye and gives the headboard a real sense of detail and craft.

Fabrics that show off the pattern

Diamond buttoning relies on shadow and texture, so the fabric you choose really matters. Plush velvet is the natural pairing — its deep pile picks up the diamond pattern beautifully and shifts in the light. Crushed velvet adds an even more textured shimmer. Chenille, Coniston and Dumfries give softer woven finishes, Naples is the practical everyday choice, and Crushed Ice brings a cooler, frosted quality.

Each fabric is available across a broad colour palette: grey, silver, cream, black, navy and blue, pink, green and emerald, mustard, beige, teal, maroon, mocha, champagne, mink and white. Darker shades like navy and black make the diamond lines pop; lighter neutrals like cream and grey soften the look.

Five UK sizes

Diamond beds are available in every standard UK size: Single 3ft, Small Double 4ft, Double 4ft6, King 5ft and Super King 6ft. A diamond-buttoned headboard is detailed by nature, so larger sizes — King and Super King — give the pattern more room to breathe and make more of the wall behind the bed. When you're measuring up, work from the widths (3ft up to 6ft) and leave clear wall space around the headboard so the diamond pattern has room to read, rather than sitting tight to the ceiling.

Storage underneath

The diamond detailing is all in the headboard, leaving the base free for storage if you want it. A gas-lift ottoman base lifts from the end of the bed to reveal the entire space beneath the mattress — ideal for bulky bedding, suitcases and out-of-season clothing. If you'd rather have drawers, divan-style two-drawer and four-drawer options, including footend drawers, keep things accessible without lifting the mattress.
