Because every bed is made to order, you can pick a hard-wearing fabric, a headboard height that works for a younger child, and add storage drawers or an ottoman base for toys, bedding and outgrown clothes. When sizing a kids bed, think a step ahead rather than just to today. A single (3') is the practical long-term choice because it carries a child comfortably from their early years right through to their teens, and the mattress and bedding are easy to source in standard UK sizes; a small single (2'6") is a good space-saver for a box room or a shared bedroom. A lower headboard is usually safer and more proportionate for younger children, and adding a couple of drawers turns the under-bed space into toy storage that actually gets used rather than a magnet for clutter.
