Some styles never really go out of fashion, and the chesterfield is one of them. Originally a sofa design, its deep-buttoned upholstery and rolled silhouette have been borrowed for beds for good reason — the look is at once classic and genuinely comfortable. Our chesterfield beds collection gathers every bed in the range with that deep-buttoned chesterfield headboard, made to order in the UK.
What makes a chesterfield bed
A chesterfield bed carries the signature detailing of the original: deep buttoning pulled through the upholstery to create a tufted, padded surface, paired with the characteristic curves that define the shape. The headboard is the centrepiece — a tall, upholstered panel that reads as crafted and considered from the moment you walk into the room.
It's a comfortable backrest for reading, and a softer surface than any flat or metal headboard. Like the rest of our upholstered range, the chesterfield styling sits on top of our standard bed frame construction, so you keep the full choice of storage bases underneath.
Fabrics for a classic look
The chesterfield is a fabric-led design, and the right material sets the tone. Plush velvet is the classic pairing — its deep pile works beautifully with deep buttoning and gives a rich, opulent finish. Crushed velvet adds more texture and shimmer. Chenille, Coniston and Dumfries offer softer, woven looks, Naples is the practical everyday choice, and Crushed Ice brings a cooler, frosted finish.
Each fabric is available across a wide colour palette: grey, silver, cream, black, navy and blue, pink, green and emerald, mustard, beige, teal, maroon, mocha, champagne, mink and white. A dark navy or black chesterfield reads as formal and dramatic; a cream or grey one feels calmer and more contemporary.
Five UK sizes
Chesterfield beds are available in every standard UK size: Single 3ft, Small Double 4ft, Double 4ft6, King 5ft and Super King 6ft. The deep-buttoned headboard has real presence, so a King or Super King gives the detailing room to shine — though the look works well even in a smaller guest Double. For planning, check the width of the bed — from 3ft up to 6ft — against both the floor area and the wall behind, before you order.
Storage options
Because the chesterfield detailing lives in the headboard, the base is yours to choose. A gas-lift ottoman base lifts from the end of the bed to reveal the whole space beneath the mattress — perfect for bulky bedding, suitcases and out-of-season clothes. Divan drawer options, including two-drawer and four-drawer layouts and footend drawers, keep everyday items close to hand.
How to choose a chesterfield bed
Begin with the mood of the room. A chesterfield suits bedrooms that lean traditional or properly luxurious, and it loves a fabric with depth — velvet and chenille bring out the deep buttoning best. Pick a colour that will last through redecorations; neutral greys, creams and beiges give you the most flexibility over the years.
Then decide on the base. If storage is a priority, an ottoman chesterfield hides more than any drawer arrangement; if you'd rather reach things easily, divan drawers are the simpler choice. It's worth remembering that a chesterfield is a long-term piece — the look has already proved it doesn't date, so it rewards a fabric and colour you'll be happy to live with for years rather than something tightly tied to this season's trends.
