What is a winged bed?

A winged bed is a bed frame whose headboard extends into sides — the "wings" — that run back toward the wall. Historically those wings helped trap warmth and block draughts; today they're mostly about presence, framing the bed and giving the whole room a more settled, hotel-suite feel. Wingback beds use the same idea with the characteristic curved wingback shape, for a look that reads as both classic and contemporary depending on the fabric.

For a standard main bedroom, a King 5ft is the popular middle ground: enough presence for the winged shape to read, without overwhelming the room.
